Au pays de la fourme

Sauvain est un petit village perché dans les Monts du Forez et plutôt orienté au nord. Les hivers y sont rudes. Une curieuse fontaine coule sur la placette, devant la boulangerie toujours active. Elle est constituée d'anciennes meules de pierre, devenues moussues au fil de l'eau. On trouve, non loin du bourg, une bien jolie croix en pierre sculptée, elle aussi supportée par d'anciennes meules, à croire que l'on faisait beaucoup de farine à Sauvain. De nos jours, la spécialité agricole est plutôt la fourme, ce fromage traditionnel d'appellation "fourme de Montbrison".
Au hameau des Champas, un magnifique étang piscicole attire les pêcheurs.
