Les silhouettes des portails en bois...

Les silhouettes des portails en bois dans les villages des Maramures sont typiques de la région. En face de chaque maison, ils sont témoins d’un art qui n’a pas été perdu au fil du temps, et leur ornementation traditionnelle enseigne les visions des générations passées sur le monde qui les entoure. En général, les portails sont des œuvres d’humbles artisans du village. Mais ils ont une compétence technique et un sens esthétique impressionnants. Parfois, les portails racontent simplement les histoires de la famille dont la maison était protégée des regards indiscrets par ces portes en bois. Parfois, il y a une notion beaucoup plus symbolique, des touches personnelles...

Les portails sont en général maintenus par trois piliers de chêne, avec des sculptures en bois, entourant une petite porte utilisée par les piétons. A côté, la grande porte est pour les carrosses et les voitures. Le tout est recouvert par un petit toit, encore plus finement décoré. Le portail symbolise le passage du monde extérieur à l’intimité de la maison et protège contre les forces du mal de l’extérieur. C’est une honte parce que maintenant ils les vendent chers en Europe occidentale et il y a moins.
