Vestige d'une époque prospère

Au 19e Siècle La Seyne est un chantier naval très important jusque dans les années 1960 où la concurrence étrangère commence à s’imposer.

En février 1989, les chantiers navals Seynois ferment définitivement leurs portes, victimes de la crise économique et industrielle. Seuls le Pont Levant et la Porte des Chantiers témoignent toujours de cette splendeur passée.

Installé en 1917, il permettaient aux trains de marchandises de traverser le port et d’entrer directement dans les chantiers navals. Il a échappé de peu à la destruction par les Allemands lors de la 2e Guerre Mondiale. Il fonctionne pour la dernière fois le 2 octobre 1986, 3 ans avant la fermeture totale du site.

Inscrit à la liste supplémentaire des Monuments historiques en 1987, il échappe encore une fois à la destruction et est entièrement restauré pour devenir un lieu d’observation de la Rade en 2006. D’une hauteur de 40m, le Pont Levant se visite tous les jours gratuitement. Il offre une très jolie vue sur la Seyne et Toulon à ne pas manquer !
